Considerations for Therapy

You might consider an evaluation of the need for therapy should the following situations present themselves.

Infants and Toddlers

  • Premature birth
  • Feeding and swallowing difficulties
  • Difficulty latching following birth
  • Reflux
  • Favors turning head or body to one side
  • Late with rolling, crawling or sitting up
  • Difficulty transitioning in out of positions (sitting to pulling to stand to crawling)
  • Quiet baby
  • Lack of babbling
  • Lack of eye contact
  • Hard time with imitating speech and motor movements
  • Not walking or talking by 15 months
  • Difficulty playing appropriately with toys
  • Not moving limbs or head bilaterally
  • Having trouble holding bottles or toys with both hands
  • Difficulty following people or objects with their eyes
  • Difficulty with sleeping
  • Difficulty with self-soothing

Preschool and School Aged

  • Difficulty sitting in chairs
  • Has trouble following basic directions and answering questions appropriately
  • Cannot tell a story with a good beginning, middle, and end
  • Handwriting not legible by 3rd Grade
  • All speech sounds not clear by age 8
  • Difficulty drinking from an open cup or straw
